We, meaning hubby and I, saw "Transformers" this past weekend. FIrst time in a VERY long time that only we two went to the movies. The movie was good, but "Star Trek" still rules the summer for us.

Dreadlocks

Just over a month ago my baby dreads were born - out of much work on the part of my 73-year-old mother and 16 -year-old daughter. It took about 4 1/2 hours of sectioning and backcombing, and has taken a lot of work now on my part with upkeep. But I love them! :) I was not certain how receptive my husband would be to this drastic change from my stick straight hair, but he actually approves and has told me several times that they look cool. Coming from him - a conservative person when it comes to appearance - that is a great compliment, and shows that he can be open minded when it comes to his wife doing her thing with her hair. After nearly 20 years of marriage we have come to know one another very well and accept one another for who we are, and respecting our individuality and personality quirks.
The fact that my hair is dreading nicely - on most days it looks decent - shows that this is a good hairstyle for people who have fine hair - baby fine in my case. The process has certainly been hit and miss as to waxing, using lock accelerator, even washing. I did a lot of research on the subject before I plunged in and dreaded out, and though there are sometimes conflicts as to how often to wash your hair, etc. it is an individual journey and a learning experience.
There have been days when I despaired of my skinny dreads looking like I thought they should, and I still have my bandana days, but they are actually locking up, and now it is only contention with my roots, which have grown out more than I thought they would in a month, and I hope I can get them to cooperate and do what they should as well. So far it has been a fantastic journey.

Reading is the best influence for me. You can learn a great deal about what to do and what NOT to do when you read what someone else has written.

Meaning to do this...

I have been meaning to start this for some time now, but never managed to get to it. Sometimes life is just too busy or too demanding...or I am lazy. There are many things I mean to get done, but ...laziness can be my middle name.
Most of my time lately has been concerned with finishing my fantasy novel - yeah, I am one of those wanna-be-published-writers - which I have managed. It is in the polishing stage, and hubby wants to know when I am going to be ready to actually start sending queries.
I am also writing an entry for an anthology contest - cash would be nice right about now...when is it not nice?? ;)
One child is back in school, the next one goes back Tuesday next week. I always wish summer lasted longer than it does, though I can do without the summer heat we have had this year, and the lack of rain.
Well, off to write or watch "28 Days Later" again...hubby and daughter are zombie-ophiles. Me, I wanted to watch a "Star Wars" film. Didn't quite win this one.
